Mouth Cancer Action Month is held in November every year and its aim is to educate and raise awareness to check the mouth for early signs of mouth cancer. According to Mouth Cancer Foundation, 8864 people in the UK were diagnosed with Mouth Cancer last year. Did you know, it takes less than a minute to check and could save your life?
What are the signs to look out for?
- Mouth ulcers that seem to be long-lasting
- Unusual swelling and/or lumps
- Red or white patches in the mouth
Be sure to check around the head and neck too as well as the inside of the mouth including; inside the cheeks, around the gums, tonsils and tongue, the roof and floor of the mouth and also the lips. Your Dental Professional should be doing this at your regular check-ups, but we recommend carrying out a check routinely on a monthly basis.
To see a mouth cancer check in motion, watch our lovely Oralieve Educator Jackie explaining how to check your mouth in this video.
In November, we encouraged people to check their mouths especially on the awareness day ‘Blue Wednesday’ which took place on Wednesday 15th November. For every sale on this day of Oralieve Moisturising Dry Mouth Relief Spray and Oralieve Alcohol-Free Mouthrinse (as they are blue), we donated 10% of sales to Mouth Cancer Foundation - we are pleased to say we donated £150! We would like to thank you all for your support on this day and to keep encouraging you to check your mouths!
